Book and Cover Design
The author, and a well-versed writer and historian, wanted the interior design including the fonts, to look like a book from the 1870s. The cover and the title page were to look like the historical books of the period.
I reviewed books of the period. We went with Bookman Old Style for the font. The front cover was created to look like a worn leather book of the period, similar to the one the main character carries throughout the story.
With brilliant dialog, great plots, and accurate historical details, The Discretion Series explores the surprisingly complex relations between Native American cultures, settlers, and the US Army’s sordid politics in the Old West. Charles Wolfe Collins, an Irish undercover agent and Civil War veteran, faces the heart-breaking reality of Indian country in the 1870s.
